Blue Bottle Brew Bar in Manhattan

This place sounds excellent.  They’re pulling some of Japan’s coffee culture to the US: syphon and nel drip (cotton cloth pourover, essentially) served at a solid marble bar.  It’s personal and unique.  They’ll also have a typical coffee bar serving up traditional drinks of course.  There’s clearly a big enough market for something this niche to survive in New York.  Perhaps someday in Cincy.

Comet Coffee, Ann Arbor (Boots in the Oven)

In the small shop.

Here’s Comet Coffee, in Ann Arbor (Boots in the Oven).  The store is about the size of the kitchen at either one of Tazza Mia’s stores.  Although they’re so small, they crank out excellent drinks and they constantly have a crowd.  Real simple.

Sightglass in San Francisco

Here are a few shots from Sight Glass in San Francisco (from Oliver Strand’s blog ristretto).  What I like about the look of their shop is it’s cleanliness, the industrial feel, how they display their baked goods,  and their stylish lighting.  They roast in their store too.  And they have delicious coffee.

Improving Cincinnati’s Coffee Culture

Let’s begin in a positive way: by imagining what we want and not by pointing out what we currently have and dislike.

Let’s be straightforward too: the coffee scene in Cincinnati is not what it could be.

This is where you explain your desires, offer up your thoughts, and provide steps for everyone to improve.

You’re welcome to be short and simple. You can describe other cultures in other cities, detail the great aspects of remarkable shops around the globe, offer up suggestions for improvement, or any other great idea. Just be positive.
